An Operating System is the basic software that controls a computer. It controls how the hardware operates, the communication with peripheral devices including a monitor, a printer or a keyboard, the allocation of memory between apps, as well as the prioritization of applications if several run at once. Each program that is installed on a computer system functions by sending requests to the OS for various services via an application program interface (API). The contact with the OS can be performed via a Graphical User Interface (GUI) or a command line. In the Internet hosting field, the Operating System is what runs a web server and any software installed on it, which includes not only website scripts, but also any other application such as a VOIP or a game server. In case there are virtual machines created, they work with a guest OS which runs on the server host OS.
Multiple OS in VPS Servers
Our VPS server solutions include three Linux distributions which you may select from for the Operating System of your new server - Debian, Ubuntu and CentOS. Apart from being absolutely free, the OSs are extremely stable and protected and the main reason to offer all 3 of them is to ensure that you can run any application that you would like, as different pieces of software may have different requirements with regards to the environment they work on. Each of the three OSs is backed by a huge community of developers who have created a large number of software packages that you can install and use on your VPS. Based on the Operating System which you choose, you will also be able to select between 3 different Control Panels to manage your hosting content. Also, in case you decide that you need a different OS, we can always reinstall the server with it. As a paid upgrade, we also provide weekly updates of the Operating System for optimum stability and security.
Multiple OS in Dedicated Servers
In case you decide to buy one of our dedicated servers, you shall find three Operating Systems on the order page since we want to give you a larger choice regarding the system environment on the server as different applications can have certain requirements. CentOS, Ubuntu and Debian come with different modules developed by their large support communities, so you can select each of these OSs and benefit from a stable and risk-free Internet hosting service. Depending on your selection, you'll also have different Control Panels to choose from. Of course, we can always replace the Operating System in case the one you've selected initially doesn't meet the requirements of the software that you would like to run. We can also upgrade your OS on a regular basis in order to keep it as risk-free as possible with our Managed Services upgrade package.
